There’s a unique site across the Hudson where history and nature meet culture and cuisine: the Water Street Market. This literal crossroads is located in picturesque New Paltz, New York, and promises visitors a treat for every sense.

The Water Street Market features over 20 award-winning shops offering antiques, arts and crafts, fashions, food and gifts. The quaint open air shopping village is situated on Main Street, by the corner of Historic Huguenot Street and Water Street. Its friendly merchants welcome visitors to relax and stroll, enjoy the views, and possibly pick up a “find” or two along the way.

The market’s central location makes it an ideal stop for travelers on their way to Mohonk Mountain House. Bikers and hikers of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail can enjoy a break at one of the outdoor tables, and antique lovers will want to spend hours browsing through the wares of over 40 antique dealers (and the prices are incredible!).

The Mudd Puddle Café challenges anyone to find a better cup of coffee than the ones hand roasted and blended by Michelle Walsh, the owner of the popular eatery. Michelle and her husband James invite patrons to “sit back, enjoy a fresh, handmade treat or meal, and let the atmosphere inspire you.” Be sure to check out the Dueling Tip Jar and the incredible selection of teas.

As a central part of the New Paltz community, the Water Street Market showcases sculpture and art from area residents and students. Their commitment to the arts continues with free concerts featuring local bands every weekend from May through October.
