JULY

THURSDAYS JULY 26TH, 7PM

BRAWL raised over $2,000 at Water Street Market on October 6th! Once again this event was a huge success. Hundred of people came out and donated to Ulster County Crime Victims Assistance Program, by placing "bets" on their favorite arm wrestlers. Donating money has never been this much fun!

B.R.A.W.L. (Broads Regional Arm Wrestling League)
FUNDRAISER FOR COTA

image At B.R.A.W.L. events, arm wrestlers like Jackie-O-Nasty, Ms. ARMerica, Nurse Hatchet, and Queen Victorious duke it out on a regulation arm wrestling table. The competition is fierce and filled with sweat, groans and foul play.  Each woman brings her own posse to back her up.  Broads Regional Arm Wrestling League is where Hudson Valley ladies walk the line between pro wrestling antics, theatrics, and pure strength competitive sport.  Eight women wrestlers, each with their own character theme and wrestling moniker, compete in each B.R.A.W.L. competition.  They have money-hungry entourages who collect "bets" from the crowd. Rules are determined and managed by the referee, and manipulated and corrupted by the wrestlers, celebrity judges, crowd hecklers, and muscle lovin' bet-hedgers.
This is beyond sport.
This is beyond entertainment.
This is brute strength on stage.

Place your bets on the broad of your choice, then watch your cash go towards local organizations whose services benefit women and girls.  Thus far, our donations have gone to Family of Woodstock's Battered Women's Services, the YWCA, and Ulster Co. Teen Parent Services.

NO COVER CHARGE.
But please bring money for "betting" on the wrestlers of your dreams. brawlnewyork.wordpress.com

WATER STREET MARKET SUMMER SERIES MOVING INTO OUR 'FIFTH' SEASON

We are heading into our fourth season of Water Street Market's summer series. One of our goals here at Water Street Market is to hold events which support sustainability, while providing thought provoking ideas and creating a cohesive community. We strive to support locally owned businesses and the environment, while fostering community and acting as a catalyst to local charities. Our courtyard setting has often been compared to an Italian piazza, a place where locals come to co-mingle, eat, celebrate and collaborate. Throughout the summer we make this happen each week at our free weekly events.

TBA

SEAN SCHENKER & JASON SARUBBI (of The Trapps)
Sean and Jason have been performing music together for 10 years in numerous festivals, conferences and world class venues. They have shared the stage with folks like Levon Helm, Jackie Greene, Blues Traveler and Big Head Todd. Their original catalogue of music is a mix of finely crafted Americana inspired tunes with a keen pop sensibility. Their latest CD, with The Trapps, climbed high on the Americana Music Charts and received critical acclaim. They are currently working on a forthcoming 3rd CD with the band.

TBA

THE SWEET CLEMENTINES
The Sweet Clementines play what they call earthy (sm)art pop, an original electric concoction that nods to the British Invasion, '60s psychedelia, Indie rock, prog, and surreal cabaret ala Tom Waits or Kurt Weill without sounding very much like any of the above. A six piece ensemble featuring vibraphone and violin on top of standard rock instrumentation, the Sweet Clementines have been building a following in New York's Mid-Hudson valley, performing at Bard College's prestigious Spiegeltent, at Rock the Resort alongside Soulive and other jam scene luminaries, and at clubs and listening rooms throughout the region. Their first full length CD, though it were the kiss of death, well be released in the spring of 2011.

TBA

THE VIRGINIA WOLVES"
Kelly McNally of The Virginia Wolves is fashioning tunes that are enormously relevant in these troubled times. Her recently released Curse of the Kill (My Own Label Records, 2009) consists of 13 lyrical compositions in the "bring them home" millieu, presented through McNally's self-proclaimed "Organic Rock." Implementing guitar, piano, harmonica, tambourine and lead vox, McNally is joined by Adele Schulz (vocal harmonies, french horn, trumpet & tambourine) Chris Macchia (bass) Alan Macaluso (pedal steel & electric guitar) Eric Ortner (violin) & Just Jed on drums and percussion. McNally proudly dedicated her 1st album to her Father (Vietnam Veteran & union worker of The World Trade Center (25yrs.) & Ground Zero (3yrs.)" -Sharon Nichols (Chronogram Magazine) www.thevirginiawolves.com

TBA

TANAGER
Tim Porco and Rosie Rion started playing together early last summer, covering classic country favorites in addition to performing original material. Joined by bassist Jason Upchurch and harmonica player Jimmy Reber this past fall, the group has written new originals and developed its own sound. Tanager is a blend of Americana Rock and Old-Time Country that can provide a fun and exciting performance for any and all music appreciators!

TBA

RHETT MILLER OF THE OLD '97
his is a rare opportunity to see Rhett Miller play for FREE, outdoors in his hometown!! We're lucky he had a date open to play locally, with his intesnse touring schedule this summer. Tell your friends, bring your family...you won't want to miss this one! www.rhettmiller.com

MR. ROPER
Comprised of Eric Squindo and Rick, Mr. Roper is an acoustic duo from the Hudson
Valley area. Their sets are comprised of both original material and tasty coversranging from forgotten folk to contemporary Americana. Eric Squindo (guitar, vocals, harmonica) is a singer/songwriter influenced by the likes of Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams. Rick (guitar, vocals) is a professional musician that has been performing live since the mid-eighties. He is also Music Director and morning show host on 98.1 WKZE (Red Hook, NY). Together, they create a rustic, down to earth blend of folk, rock, country, and blues.

TBA

DZIUBECKO

TBA

ME & MY EX
"Me and My Ex" is made up of 2 local residents Ginny Leitner and Rob Leitner: but don't let the names fool you - they really are divorced, but are still literally making beautiful music together (alas, the figurative "music" disappeared awhile back...).
Come see them play a mixed bag of folk, light rock and country covers. And, they promise not to bicker on stage (although she has been known to roll her eyes from time to time...!).

TBA

RATBOY
Ratboy have been presenting their twisted pop vision around the valley for quite some time now, they serve up a scrappy, honest set of tunes that mix the simplicity of Crazy Horse/Neil Young with the irreverence of Cracker"-Roll Magazine.

TBA

The Lovetapps
"The Lovetapps" are an acoustic/electric soul duo.
In the summer of 2010 three musicians from New Paltz NY, Mark Ormerod (guitar), Bob Kemp (drums) and Mark Beaumont (bass) formed the trio MBM. In late August Bob heard Adam Bohanan sing in Beacon NY and thought he would fit in nicely and MBMA was born. Mark and Adam perform as a duo and MBMA is the full band. The material encompasses classic and modern soul as well as originals written by Bohanan and Ormerod. The band and duo have been busy playing many shows since September. Mark and Adam are currently writing material that is to be arranged by MBMA and will begin recording in mid to late summer 2011.

SÉRAPHINE is the story of Séraphine Louis aka Séraphine de Senlis (Yolande Moreau), a simple and profoundly devout housekeeper who in 1905 at age 41, self-taught and with the instigation of her guardian angel began painting brilliantly colorful canvases. In 1912 Wilhelm Uhde (Ulrich Tukur), a German art critic and collector - he was one of the first collectors of Picasso and champion of naïve primitive painter Le Douanier Rousseau - discovered her paintings while she worked for him as a maid in his house in Senlis outside Paris. A moving and unexpected relationship develops between the avant-garde art dealer and the visionary cleaning lady leading to Séraphine's work being grouped with other naïve painters – the so-called "Sacred Heart Painters" - with acclaimed shows in France, elsewhere in Europe and eventually at New York's MOMA . Martin Provost's poignant portrait of this now largely forgotten painter is a testament to the mysteries of creativity and the resilience of one woman's spirit. Watch Trailer

With a chance to win in several categories including best home chef, best vegetarian, people's choice, most creative and best professional, this event brings out some amazing talent from our community.
